TRENARY – Residents of Trenary reported an unusual increase in pickup trucks equipped with weather stations, antennas, dash cameras, and enough camera gear to film a Hollywood blockbuster after the forecast hinted that severe weather\u2014including the possibility of a tornado\u2014could develop across portions of the Upper Peninsula today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sightings have been attributed to the popular Michigan Storm Chasers, whose arrival immediately prompted local residents to begin watching the sky with the same intensity normally reserved for opening day of deer season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I counted at least twelve vehicles driving around with weather radar on laptops,” said one Trenary resident. “I figured either a tornado was coming or somebody announced free pasties.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The convoy of storm chasers was reportedly seen leapfrogging from one gravel road to the next, frequently stopping to scan the horizon before racing off toward the next promising cloud formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As word spread that storm chasers had arrived in the area, residents began stocking up on emergency supplies. By mid-morning, shelves at the Trenary Dollar General had reportedly been stripped of essentials, including bottled water, chips, Trenary Toast, beef jerky, and nearly every case of beer in the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We’re not saying people were panic buying,” said one employee. “But we haven’t sold this much Busch Light since opening day of firearm season.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local children were overheard asking their parents whether storm chasers actually create tornadoes or simply travel in front of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Weather Service declined to comment on the rumor but confirmed that “driving toward bad weather is generally considered the opposite of what most people do.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Trenary officials announced they would temporarily suspend complaints about tourists stopping in the middle of the road to photograph barns, noting that photographing rotating clouds was “at least a little more understandable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of Sunday afternoon, no tornado had been confirmed in the area, but residents admitted they were becoming increasingly optimistic simply because “the Michigan Storm Chasers usually don’t drive all the way up here for nothing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At press time, one Trenary resident had reportedly set up a lawn chair at the end of his driveway “just in case,” while another admitted he’d spent the last two hours watching the Michigan Storm Chasers’ livestream instead of looking out his own window because, “they’ve got a better view than I do.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
