SAULT STE. MARIE – Just months after the Airport Advisory Board unanimously requested that Commissioner and mayoral candidate Steve Habusta be replaced as its liaison, citing his absence from meetings since November and lack of availability to hear concerns or provide guidance, Habusta appears to have rediscovered Sanderson Field.
Following a recent airport open house, Habusta praised Sanderson Field as a “crucial, yet underutilized asset” and outlined ideas for expanding its role in economic development and aviation education.
It’s an impressive turnaround for a commissioner whose former board specifically told the city it was looking for an “accountable liaison.”
Habusta has also campaigned on being “active, accountable, available.”
Apparently Sanderson Field finally discovered the fourth requirement: Fun, photogenic, and during campaign season.
Residents seeking similar attention are encouraged to consider adding aircraft, heavy equipment, or an upcoming election to their next City Commission request.
